Forts AKA Fort Mary NJ

By Mary Francen

Forts they come in many shapes sizes and colors. They can be made anywhere and out of just about anything. From cardboard boxes to snow or leaves and of course couch pillows.

The most common material for your fort making fun of course would be a nice big blanket and some chairs such as the ones from your Daddy or Mommy’s dinning room table. But that is not the only place that a good fort can be made.

Some forts can take only a short amount of time to make, while others can take all afternoon to put together such as the large snow type forts.:) These of course can only be made in the winter time when there’s lots of snow on the ground :).

There is the Leaf fort this one is LOTS of fun to make because when your Daddy or Uncle is outside raking up all them pretty leaves ya get ta go an jump inta the big pile of them an bury yourself in them and throw them up in the air! “Giggles and a course ya get ta throw em at your Daddy or Uncle too!” This fort don’t last too long though cause pretty soon your Daddy or Uncle is raking the fort bake up again!

The couch cushion fort is fun to make cause its like building blocks! You stack em up on all the sides and if you have a coffee table you can even use that to your fort too! And have a neat way to get into the fort that no grownup can fit in!

You put all the cushions around the table and lean them up against the sides of the couch and than grab a blanket and put it from the table to the couch and poof instant fort! And than you go and out from the coffee table! “Giggles this is a great place ta go an grab snacks and munch on em cause the grownups can’t get in there!” :)

You can also use a chair if ya don’t got a coffee table to put the blanket up against. Or you can tuck the blanket into the couch and stack the cushions up on the floor and drape the blanket over and poof ya got a fort! :)

Another fun fort is when your Uncle or Daddy or Mommy gets a big thing in the house and there’s a huge box! These make great forts, and ya decorate these anyway ya want to and NOT get into any troubles HONEST! “Giggles ya can even color on the walls of it and put stickers on it!

Well let me tell ya about a fort that got made today here at my house. “Giggles” Now we all know that “Giggles” we all hate ta take naps an stuff, but forts can make em fun! :)

This afternoon after getting put down for a nap by Uncle, “little Mary” decided that instead of taking her nap in the bed, she was going to make her own bed.

So she did just that. Of course I have to give her credit the fort she made was very well done, “giggles” I don’t think I would have thought to make one that way! “It often takes a child’s mind to come up with the simplest solutions to a problem.” :)

She took the bedspread off the bed, and the desk chair and placed the chair on the bed, and put the bedspread over the chair and used some of the pillows from the bed and the chair to hold most of the spread  up on the bed, and than tucked some of the corners of the spread into the blinds on the windows and draped the remainder of the spread over the nightstand and lamp.

She had grabbed of course the Tinkerbelle blankie and the orange throw I have on the desk chair and Tinkerbelle pillow and one other pillow off the bed and made a little bed on the floor next to the bed inside the fort. And that is where Uncle found me when he woke me up from said nap an hour and half later.

I have taken pictures of the fort which was also shared by the cat Colby who chose the fort part that was on the bed, perhaps that was why the desk chair was placed there to make a little fort for the cat.

Who knows? But it was very well done with most of the weight of the large bedspread being on the bed and not pulling down the blinds or the crystal lamp off the table.

So what kind of forts have you made? And were they good naptime forts? This one seemed to have been a good naptime fort :) I didn’t wake up stiff or sore. “Giggles” :)

Perhaps forts are the secret to a peaceful naptime? “Giggles” Gee maybe I should talk to Uncle and Daddy about that.
