Mary’s Special
Treat Chart
By Mary Francen
Have you ever had a problem that you can’t solve on your own? Sometimes in life there are those types of problems and issues that for whatever reason are out of your control. Sometimes it seems as if a little extra encouragement is needed, even as an adult :)
Here is the idea. Grab a big piece of oak tag
from the local arts and craft store. This is a fun project, so get some
markers, some crayons and glitter - whatever you want to make it nice and
pretty. Sit at the table and think about all the things you want help yourself
with.
Draw a huge box on the oak tag and than split that into several little boxes
(see pictures below) but leave room at the top of the oak tag, as much room as
you need, to put in large words YOUR NAME special treat chart. Under that,
write in a pretty color marker the things that you will get a sticker for that
day if you followed them all or for things that you do that are extra special.

I have listed on my chart under my name the
rules that go along with my chart, but that’s not a necessity. I don’t
recommend going insane with the rules either. This is supposed to be something
that is for major things, not the every day things, not little things that we
all do.
This is a little way of having that extra bit of spice and fun in your life while getting that extra bit of help that even "grownups" sometimes need. :)
At the end of the week you or your partner looks at the chart and sees if you have earned your stickers for the week. In my case, for the most part, the entire week is weighed out and based on my overall behavior a treat is meted out. :)
For me a trip to the local sticker store armed
with $25 or a trip to the local bowling alley is a wonderful adventure. In the
summertime the boardwalk, complete with the local foods, cotton candy and
rides is a wonderful treat for my rewards. :)
I hope you all have fun. That is the major part of this, watching the stickers go up on the chart each night and seeing them accumulate, even if it takes some time to adjust, as it did for me. That is also the reason for the large piece of oak tag. It helps to see your accomplishments in the grand scale. :)
